Zoning Map Viewer Upgrade

The Myplan.ie Zoning Map Viewer web application has been upgraded and new zoning data has been added to the web map where available from the most recently adopted city and county development plans. The underlying technology in use has changed but the look and feel of the application has been retained, along with most of the functionality and data layers that were previously available. New data will be added from time to time so please check back regularly.

Myplan.ie service consumers should note that the zoning data web service has been migrated to new infrastructure and can now be found at services.arcgis.com. If you have any applications or scripts harvesting data from the old service, please update to harvest from the new URL.

Solar Planning Exemptions

The Planning and Development Act 2000 (Exempted Development) (No. 3) Regulations 2022 and the supporting Planning and Development (Solar Safeguarding Zone) Regulations 2022 which are now in effect, combine to provide updated provisions regarding planning exemptions for rooftop solar installations.

The Planning and Development (Solar Safeguarding Zone) Regulations 2022 set out 43 Solar Safeguarding Zones (SSZs) which are areas around airports, aerodromes or helipads in which there is a potential for glint or glare from solar panels to impact aviation safety. A square metre limit on rooftop solar panels applies within these zones to all classes of development other than houses. The SSZs are available for viewing here: Solar Safeguarding Zones Map.

Copies of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (Exempted Development) (No. 3) Regulations 2022 and the supporting Planning and Development (Solar Safeguarding Zone) Regulations 2022 are available on the Irish Statute Book website.

Open Data

The concept of Open Data is about making data held by public bodies available and easily accessible online for reuse and redistribution. As public bodies have progressed in areas like eGovernment and data analytics, the potential of data and, in particular, Open Data to help deliver economic, social and democratic benefits has become clearer.
